When you hear the term "non profit," a lot of preconceived notions may come to mind. Certainly, that's the way it was for me before I actually became an active member of a non profit.
Some people may think that being non profit means everything we do doesn't cost anything to you, our end consumer. It would be wonderful if that could be the case. I, personally, have struggled with charging people and have felt tempted on many occasions to offer my services for free.
Alas, that isn't how the world works.
Stuff costs money. Dog food, veterinarian care, treats, flea prevention, grooming, and boarding--those things are just the tip of the iceberg. Keep in mind, none of us work for a salary. We are all volunteers. The money we charge is for upkeep of our facilities and the animals contained therein. We simply can't charge "nothing."
Having said that, we are happy to be able to offer people a service that otherwise might cost them many thousands of dollars. It was our personal experiences trying to obtain service dogs that lit the fire of passion in our hearts. We think anyone who needs a service dog should have one, regardless of their ability to slap down cold, hard, cash.
I have added our fee schedule to the website. Anyone who is currently working with us, fear not. We aren't suddenly going to hit you will a bill. However, effective today, we simply must begin charging a reasonable amount for the things we do. The truth is, we cannot continue if we don't. We are struggling to keep our heads above water, and if we don't implement a set fee structure, we will drown. Then, everyone can go back to the option of either paying $15,000 for a service dog, or not having one at all.
Thank you to those who continue to support us!
