Updates (Destiny, and Flying Away)

Lots of stuff has been happening here at K9s to Furkids!

Firstly, our rescue Bella, the lab mix, flunked out of service dog training. While that may sound like a bad thing, in truth it is what needed to happen. To think that every single dog we take in is qualified to be a service dog would be a delusion. Some dogs just have too much energy and drive to do other things.

However, don't for one minute think that we just cast Bella aside. Her foster mom (me) was ready to accept her as a permanent part of the pack. I knew with her energy she would not be suited to just anyone. I also knew that she had a great nose and a great desire to follow that nose. I reached out to several search and rescue organizations, and long story short, Bella has flown away to California! There she will work with the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation. They are a FEMA certified search and rescue group that works all over the world. We could not be more excited for Bella! In rescue, the goal is to do what is best for the dog, and we think Bella hit the jackpot!

In other news, we recently rescued a five-month-old Leonberger cross from animal control. Her name is Finnian--Finn for short. She has an absolutely wonderful, gentle disposition. She passed her service dog assessment with flying colors! She has only just begun to realize that life can be a happy thing, and we jus know that when she settles in, she will be a super star! We have her tentatively pegged to be an alert and assist dog for a very special little girl who has a metabolic disorder.

The future is bright at K9s to Furkids, and it just keeps getting brighter! Stay tuned for more exciting updates!
